On November 7, 2009, over 100 members of AHS Class '85 gathered at a special dinner and, along with old friends over food and drinks, successfully raised funds for its Scholarship Program. At the end of the event, P87,000 were generated, thereby giving the Batch the opportunity to provide allowance subsidies to at least 14 scholars for the School Year 2010-2011. The program seeks to subsidize the daily "baon" of qualified high school students of our needy batchmates. Our target is to subsidize students anywhere from 1st year to 4th year. Some basic numbers we considered:
- P6,000 is needed to fully subsidize a high school student for 1 school year
* P20 as daily allowance
* 22 days per month
* 10 months comprise a school year
- P4,400 as basic subsidy
- P1,600 to be used for school supplies
By March or April 2010, the Batch '85 Executive Committeethrough its Scholarship Committee shall have received nominations and finalized its roster of scholars. Initially, the following qualifications are being considered as qualifications for scholarship coverage:
* Children / immediate kin of Batch Mates
* Parents are unable or are having financial challenges to send their child to high school
* Scholars must meet scholastic average
* Scholars must personally obtain subsidies
* Scholars and parents to regularly meet with ExCom
* Monitoring system to be put in place
* Other interventions may be considered
Should you have nominees, please feel free to touch base with JOjo Savares or any officer of the Executive Committee.
